So there has been quite a bit of gymnastics going on lately, FINALLY…

Gymnix was this past weekend and while it didn’t have a very impressive field, I was impressed by Jordyn Pederson’s floor exercise.  She’s still really young but shows a lot of potential!

Of course the SCAM cup was last weekend and Rebecca Bross had the competition won before it even started.  She did show up with a new floor routine which is a step up from her old routine but she needs to learn to PERFORM.  She has absolutely no emotion in her routine…BORING!

I hope they take some time and clean up her skills too…she is starting to get VERY sloppy.

Congrats to Alexandra Raisman for competing at the SCAM cup, while her gymnastics still has a lot of work, I was really impressed by her beam.  It was rock solid and she had a HUGE patterson dismount!

The major highlight of the SCAM cup to me was seeing the lovely Elsa Garcia again…she’s one of my favorite gymnasts of all time!  Too bad I can’t find a video of her beam or floor routine.  :(

Elyse Hofpner-Hibbs of UCLA got her first 10.0 of her career at the same meet that Grace Taylor of Georgia got her first 10.0 of the year.  It was pretty darn good and while Elyse doesn’t have a lot of skills in her routine, the skills she does are HARD!

Well…what do you all think about the recent gymnastics meets?  At least we are getting into elite competition season…but it’s hard to watch elite after seeing such great gymnastics in NCAA.  Do you agree?

The FIG announced yesterday that they found Dong Fanxiao underage in both the 1999 Worlds and 2000 Olympics.  There was insufficient evidence on Yang Yun to convict her of being underage, (but I think her admitting herself she was 14 at the Olympics should be enough).  Anyway, the FIG is recommending to the IOC that the medals be stripped from the 1999 Worlds and 2000 Olympic teams.

The FIG has recommended to the International Olympic Committee that China be stripped of its bronze medal from the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The IOC has normally held to a statute of limitations of eight years for modifying results.

From 1997 to 2000, Dong competed with a birthdate of Jan. 20, 1983 date of birth, making her 16 years old at the 1999 Worlds in Tianjin and 17 in Sydney. Since 1997, the minimum age for international senior competition has been 16.

Dong’s age became an issue during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where the age of Chinese gymnasts were disputed by their rivals. Dong served as a line judge in Beijing, and registered for the event with her date of birth as Jan. 23, 1986.

The U.S. women’s team could move up to the bronze If the IOC were to follow the FIG’s recommendation. If the FIG strips China of its 1999 world championship result, the bronze medal would go to Ukraine.

The FIG ruled there was insufficient evidence to nullify the results of Dong’s teammate Yang Yun, who was also under investigation. In addition to the team bronze in Sydney, Yang won an individual bronze medal on the uneven bars.

I personally think that the 2008 team wasn’t investigated well enough…but that’s just my thoughts.

I’m so sorry again about the long break in between updates…it’s almost the end of the high school competition season here so my life will slow down a lot here soon.  Anyway, Gymnastike covered the Pikes Peak Cup this past weekend and one girl in particular, Wynter Childers, really caught my eye.

She may be a little sloppy but the performance gets a 10.  I love it!  She looks young so she has plenty of time to clean up her work.

Kristina Vaculik was at the Nadia Comaneci Invitational this past weekend and won the competition.  It’s so good to see her back in competition and I can’t wait to see her in NCAA!

Aliya Mustafina competed a couple weeks ago in Russia and brought back her 1.5 twisting bar dismount…which I LOVE!  It just looks so neat!  It’s odd that nobody has really competed this skill but a double has been done numerous times.

Is there a better choreographer out there besides UCLA head coach Miss Val?  She makes amazing routines and can take gymnasts who dance like this:

and everytime I watch this routine by Brittani I get chills in the middle from how amazing she performs it…

I would love it if Miss Val could choreograph all of the USA elite gymnasts routines, then we’d have some amazing routines to watch.

So I was just looking around on youtube today and found recent videos of Anna Pavlova competing on bars and beam!  They were posted only a day ago and they are obviously new videos because her knee is taped heavily still protecting her from her ACL tear.

Now of course she doesn’t look great just yet but it’s so good to see her back!!!  There aren’t any dismounts on either event yet but I do really like her first jump in her beam routine, it looks very elegant on Pavs!

I’m so excited to see her back, aren’t you???

Quitters Try on youtube has created a blog that is dedicated to finding the good gymnastics montages on the web and posting them for all to see…I think it’s a great idea!  (Too bad I don’t have one on there, haha I would expect it.)
